We've been using standard solid crates for storing and transporting fresh produce and I've noticed things at the bottom tend to sweat and go soft faster than they should. Someone suggested switching to
Ventilated Crates
to improve airflow, but I'm wondering how much difference it actually makes in practice or if it's just a marginal improvement. Our storage isn't climate controlled so the crates are sitting in ambient heat, which I imagine makes airflow more important rather than less. Has anyone made the switch and noticed produce lasting noticeably longer? Also curious whether ventilated crates are as strong as solid ones since they've clearly got less material, and whether they stack well when full. I'd rather not change everything over if the gain is negligible.
